I have a very active 5 year old. Long trips are necessary due to where we live. A trip for groceries can take an hour and a half. Some of our other trips are at least 5 hours. Keeping him calm and busy usually requires some planning. He loves to hear stories (fact or fiction). So, along the way we talk about how the landscape changes, the differences in the little towns along the way. Sometimes we create things to look for and imagine how they can be used. Having Sparkle Stories would be ideal! We have sampled Junkyard Tales and that really gets him going. He is very attentive and once the story is over he talks about the characters as if they were real. I get caught up in them too! We love you guys.

On longer car trips we add my daughter reading aloud either a story she made up or one that she brought, coloring/drawing/writing, playing “I Spy” or with small toys, if they don’t end up napping part of the time. This is the first time I’ve heard of Sparkle Stories.

  146. My children are 12, 11, 9, 7 and 4. We do a lot of traveling, almost weekly, so this is a something we always have to plan for. I carry a bag of easy crafts, each child has a bag they pack with books, MP3 players, Mad Lips, dry erase crayon & board, Highway Bingo cards, and our weekly read aloud book. Our van does not have a media player so that is a true blessing!

  147. Luella Spurbeck says:

I also liked Sparkle Stories and Simple Homeschool on Facebook.

  148. My boys are 5 & 7.

We recently returned from a 20-hour road trip (one way). The boys have a large book about North American Wildlife. They took turns passing their measuring tape back and forth and checking the lengths of each critter. When they got to moose, things got a little crowded in the backseat. :). Thank you for all you do. I am inspired by you.

  149. Elizabeth says:

Our children are 10, 9, and 3 years old. They like to read, work on their Awana Bible study, listen to music, look at books for the three yr. old, and their favorite is to listen to Narnia CD’s.

  150. Nicole Robinson says:

Hi! My kids are 4, 7, and 10 and we listen to books in CD while traveling. Our favorites are the Boxcar Children Mysteries. We also play the animal game and guess what animal another person is thinking of.

  151. My children are 1, 3, and 6. When we travel we usually listen to music (and audio books and Sparkle Stories), occasional movie (just for the kids), books to look at, and some simple crafts (finger knitting or sticker pages) or games.

  152. Tyler Sandon says:

My children are 7, 3 and 5 months. They love listening to audio books in the car and it definitely makes it peaceful for mommy :). It’s great to have the option of buying them for the car bc in this day and age most of them you need to download to a tablet.

  153. My daughter is now 5 years old and during travel we keep her entertained with either a few activity books or her nintendo DS with a few games.

  157. My kids are 10, 6, and 2. Keeping them entertained during travel is a challenge, as we limit screen time more and more. We listen to audiobooks and color quite a bit.

  158. And I liked SH and SS on Facebook!

  159. I my child is 5.5 and he likes to bring books, his leap pad and some toys with him when we travel. We also like to play I spy and sing songs or listen to educational cd’s or cassettes.

  160. My kids are 14, 9 and 5. We use audio books and drama, conversation starter questions and driving while my youngest naps to keep ourselves happy while travelling! Sparkle Stories is a family favourite already so we’re excited about this giveaway. Thanks!

  161. And I like both Simple Homeschool and Sparkle Stories on FB

  162. jennifer says:

  164. Stefanie says:

Our littles are 3,5,7 & 7 and are great travellers! We love stories in the car, dry erase markers on the windows, bingo, and crafts to keep everyone occupied…. Also, we love just having some good music on and playing iSpy. Would LOVE to try Sparkle stories!

  165. My kiddos are 10, 7, and 2. While traveling we love listening to audio books, coloring, reading, sometimes watch a DVD, playing travel games (like naming animals using each letter of alphabet). We love the few free Sparkle Stories that we have tried!
I have also like both on Facebook. Thanks!! 🙂

  166. My kids are 6 and 3. We usually do only enough driving for the music to last (about 20 min) then we have to be at our destination! We need more variety for our travelling activities!

  167. Facebook “liked” for both Simple Homeschool and Sparkle Stories!

  168. My children are 12-Ariana and 5-Jude. We usually sing , play “eye spy” or color while traveling. On occasion I have allowed them to play with their electronics for awhile.

  171. 4 children –
We always had a bag of FUN things to do. Reading books, audio books, music cd’s, coloring books, magnetic boards, travel bingo, I Spy and now with the new technology in vehicles we take along videos.

  172. Michelle W says:

This would be SO wonderful for trips! I have a boy (almost 8), girl 6, & boy 4. When on trips bring books, coloring stuff, DVD player. Sometimes we play games like “I spy w/ my little eye”

  173. My children are 5 and 2. We do some music cds, tell stories, say prayers, I spy games or simple toys and finger knitting (for my older child) to keep them busy during travel in the car. Thanks for the opportunity again!

  174. Lisa Aures says:

My daughter is 13 and we listen to music, talk and sightsee. thank you!

  175. I liked Simple homeschool and sparkle stories on FB.

  176. Kristen says:

My kids are almost 7 and 3. We live in a town that isn’t connected to a road system, so the farthest distance we can drive takes about 45 minutes. Most of the time we listen to music or encourage the kids to look at the beautiful scenery out the windows. On the rare occasions we take a longer road trip, we bring the tablet with some movies on it and headphones. We also encourage the kids to bring books to look at. I know they would love some stories they could listen to, though!

  177. My children are 5, 3, and 1. We travel to my parents’ house often. They live 3 hours away, so we listen to Curious George CDs, music CDs, and read books to keep occupied. These Sparkle Stories sound like they would be a lot of fun and a great way to pass the time on our trips.

  178. Stephanie says:

My girls are 6 and 9. We usually play eye spy or ABC games for car trips. If its really long, DVDS. (This is an awesome giveaway!!!!!!!!)

  184. 7 and two five year olds and we use lots of audiobooks to get from iowa to Colorado and over to Indiana to see family.

  185. My children are 4 and 6. When we travel, I give them a “activity bag” to put between them that has books, new puzzle and sticker books, and a few snack treats that I don’t usually let them have… 🙂 We listen to music, storybooks, and movies to supplement.

  186. This is an AWESOME giveaway! Fingers crossed, as this would be perfect for our upcoming trip across country. My children are ages 9, 7, and 5. We love listening to audio books, reading, coloring, playing “The Minister’s Cat,” and watching DVDs for the super long trips that require full days of driving. Thank you very much for this generous offering!

My kids are and 8 mos. We read audio books, do school work, play games and read aloud.

  188. Angelene Woodard says:

My children are 7, 4, and 6 months. Obviously we listen to audio books and music when traveling. Sometimes we even break out the dvd player to keep everyone in the back seat occupied. Currentl,y the older kids are learning the alphabet and numbers (1-10) in sign language and they try to “talk” to eachother this way. In theory, it’s supposed to be quiet. It’s not completely silent…but at least they are not screaming!

  189. our kids love music, audio books and magnet books. snacks when needed.
they are 3 and 6. thanks

  190. Alicia Joslin says:

  191. Kids are 6yo, 4yo, 20 months and one more on the way. Usually they do activity/sticker books, play ispy, daydream out the window. Listening to stories I think my kids would really enjoy!!

I already like simple homeschool on FB and now like sparkle stories.

My boys are 14, 12, 3, and 17 months. Typically the 14 year old and the younger two take naps. The 12 year talks about whatever. My 3 year old is also always on the lookout for tractors and cows; he loves both and luckily we are in a rural area.

  198. My kids are almost 3 and 8 months. We try to drive long distances overnight.

  199. Erin G. says:

My children are 4, 2 and 8 months. The older two are great travelers and are perfectly happy looking through books for hours while we travel. The only problem is they get disappointed when they run out of books and have to look at the same ones again!

  200. Brittany says:

On car trips, we pack “surprise boxes,” which are plastic shoe boxes decorated with stickers that contain things like puzzle books, stickers, tin foil (they like to mold it into shapes), small snacks, small toys, etc. We’ve done this for years, ever since my older kids (now 17 and 19) were small.

  208. I already like simple homeschool and now i also like sparkle stories on Facebook

  209. We sing and talk. And if it’s a longer trip, we pull out the iPad or DVD player. One benefit of not using media a whole lot is that it’s a special thing for a trip. We’d love to listen to audiobooks/stories, though…not sure why I’ve never really thought of that!

When we go on car trips (at least once or twice a month!) my older 2 love to listen to books on CD, but I’ve struggled finding ones that keep both their interest!
I’ve actually had my eye on SparkleStories for some time now, but I’ve been hesitant to spend the money. I would *love* to win this as we have another trip coming up next week.. and another one in 2 weeks… and 2 more next month…

  217. I have a 5 and 3 year old. During car trips we listen to books on tape, read new library books, color, do mazes, play ‘I Spy’, give my older son math problems, and sleep 🙂

  218. My kids are 4 and 2. We tend to rely too much on DVDs. But they also enjoy workbooks, crafts, and stories.

  219. Our children are 2, 4 & 10m. We encourage our children to self entertain on shorter rides as well have conversations. We do books on tape, childrens music, coloring and we also have a bag of toys for our trips to grandparents house (14 hour drive). Our children do very well!

  220. I liked sparkle stories and already like simple homeschool.

  221. My kids are 6 and 10. We often listen to audio books in the car. Hank the Cowdog is their favorite.

  222. I also like both Simple Homeschool and Sparkle Stories on FB!

  223. My child is almost 2.5 years old. We have a very long car ride (10 hours) one way to visit my family. It is very difficult to be in the car that long because he is very active. We have to make frequent stops and get out to stretch our legs.
He really enjoys the Brainquest question books and frequently requests to play “questions.” He also likes to look at the GPS map and play “miles.” He will tell us which way to go, left or right, and loves to emphatically yell STOP. We also sing lots of songs.
He loves to make up stories to tell is and have us tell him stories. All of his stories start off: Once upon a time, there was a boy named (insert his name).
My son would absolutely love Sparkle Stories! And it would give Mommy and Daddy a break from having to come up with new stories the whole trip. 🙂

  224. My children are 3, 4, and 6. When we travel I try to group the time into 30 minutes blocks and have different activities for them to do. We can play car games for 30 minutes, listen to audio books, do a sing along to our favorite cd’s or just have quite time letting them do new activity books that I usually pick up at the dollar store. I love reading simple homeschool and I would love to try out Sparkle stories.

  233. Bridget Stevens says:

My kids are 8,6.5, 5 and 3. The older two are able to read in the car to themselves, and the younger two…we alternate alot between snacks, their toys and entertaining them with humor. 😉

  235. Greetings,
My precious daughter is now 6. When she was even younger she loved to listen to her Music Together CD’s. We would all sing along and even bring some fun instruments to play. Now she feels she is too big for those timeless songs, so we check out CD’s and Audio Books from the Library and play games. She adores the complimentary Sparkle Stories that are shared from time to time. To receive a special ‘giveaway’ would be a Spring blessing. Thanks for all that you share and give to your readers!

  240. My children are nearly 7 and 4. They keep busy during travel times by looking out the window, listening to music, sleeping, having conversations together, looking through books, listening to stories I read to them (as a passenger, of course, until I get car sick from doing so), or listening to audiobooks borrowed from the library.
