• Posts begin with a horizontal photo 675 pixels wide. The photo must be credited with an appropriate source, and must be legal to use. Please size photos before uploading so that the bandwidth required is not too large!
Be sure you include the hyperlink to the photo source so we know where to credit it if necessary.
Approximately two-three photos per post are recommended. High quality photos of your own are definitely preferred, but not required. Please turn one of the photos into a square or vertical image with text for Pinterest/Instagram, and also include one horizontal image without text for Facebook.
• Post length should be 600-800 words maximum.
• Posts must fit into one of the categories represented on the site: curriculum, family time, field trips, home maintenance/management, inspiration, methods/philosophies, a mom’s education, or organization.
• The tone of your post should be vulnerable and authentic, like a friend having tea with another friend. Keep in mind that readers come from a variety of perspectives, faiths, and backgrounds.
• Readers can find any and all “how-to” information or answers about homeschooling questions online these days in thousands of places.
We find they come to Simple Homeschool not for “how-to’s” but for heart. We love it when our writing makes readers think and makes them feel.
All posts should therefore come from personal experience. We aim for deep levels of authenticity and vulnerability, and express that creatively through our writing – whether it’s a story, a poem, a letter, etc.
The posts that resonate the most on SH tend to share stories of overcoming a challenge – something that has been hard for you or your family personally and how you’ve grown/what you’ve learned from it/how you’re getting through it.
Even though it is personal, it’s helpful to also have an encouraging point that the reader can take away and apply to their own lives. Capture readers’ attention with a hook at the beginning, and please conclude with 1-2 sentences that wrap up the concept.

• Links back to your own website should fit the content of your post. If you include too many links, chances are low it will be published. 1-5 links maximum please, and only those that really fit your post.

• Posts end with a brief author’s bio that links to the site (or sites) of the author’s choice. The author’s bio photo is pulled from their registered email at Gravatar. Please include a 1-2 sentence bio with your post submission.
• We reserve the right to edit your submission for brevity, grammar, readability, and sometimes for meaning. If too much editing is required to make the post useful, chances are low that it will be published.
• You retain the copyright to your writing, but once it’s submitted we reserve the right to use and refer to it, both on SimpleHomeschool.net, the Simple Homeschool podcast, as well as on social media (always with giving credit back to you as the author, of course).
