Written by Jamie Martin of Simple Homeschool
Hi, friends!
Today I’m super-excited–because I get to spill the beans about a project I’ve been busily working on, one I know you’re going to love.
Remember that book I have coming out June 7th?! Give Your Child the World: Raising Globally Minded Kids One Book at a Time.
This global reading treasury with over 600 children’s book recommendations is designed to take you around the world, right from home. The personalized reading lists I’ve created are organized by region, country, and age range (ages 4-12).
It’s a resource you can use for geography, literature, and history–and it’s turned out better than I ever dreamed it could be! (And I dream big, so that’s saying something.)
On top of the practical book recommendations and tips, Give Your Child the World also shares the in-depth story behind my own cross-cultural family. How does a southern gal from North Carolina end up with a British husband, a biological son, and two internationally adopted children anyhow?
If you’ve ever wondered, you can read all the details–including the real-life miracles that led us to each other–right in Chapter One.
Christmas 2007: Guess which little Martin is about to lose it in this family photo attempt?! 😉
I go on to write about how I turned to the power of stories to knit our hearts together as we transformed this mini-United Nations into a family.
Just describing the book makes me so eager for you to read and use it.
But it isn’t ready yet. And so…I made something amazing I could give you and yours right now!
How it started:
As I spent years working on Give Your Child the World, I came across dozens of titles that didn’t quite fit into the global booklists I was creating: books about ancient times.
Books about ancient civilizations are about the world, of course, but a world that doesn’t quite exist anymore. It was hard to pass over them completely, though, so look what I did instead:
Squeee–isn’t that a beautiful cover?! I love it so much.
Give Your Child the Ancient World is a bonus ebook, available FREE to all those who pre-order Give Your Child the World!
In its pages you’ll find more than 75 ancient world children’s book recommendations, personally reviewed by me, from the civilizations of Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome.
Here’s what reader Sara Onufer said after downloading hers:
“I’ve just scanned through my free E-book… I am THRILLED!! What a wonderful resource. Thank you for your work, Jamie! I cannot wait to get your book in June!”
Here’s how to get your copy:
1. Pre-order Give Your Child the World from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or any other online retailer.
Both have it available at an incredible price right now. Of course if you’ve already pre-ordered, you can skip this step. 😉
2. Take a photograph or screenshot of your receipt and send it to this email address: ancientworldbook@gmail.com
If you’ve pre-ordered previously, just go into your account information on Amazon or elsewhere and take a screenshot there. Or you can forward your receipt–whatever’s easiest for you.
3. Wait patiently.
This may be the hardest part, but I promise we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

4. Use the link we email you to download your copy of Give Your Child the ANCIENT World!
You’ll receive an email back with a private link to both the PDF and ePub versions.
Download yours. Then start requesting titles from your library and get to the best bit: reading with your kids!
5. If you appreciate this bonus, would you please use the social media buttons at the bottom of this post to let your book-loving friends know about it, too?
That would be an amazing help in spreading the word, and it truly makes all the difference.
And don’t wait: this FREE bonus ebook is only available to those who pre-order, which means that when Give Your Child the World officially launches on June 7th it will no longer be available.
I wrote Give Your Child the ANCIENT World because I wanted to make something practical you could put to good use while you wait for my book to land on your doorstep in June. A little gift to say a heartfelt thank you to those who have been such staunch supporters during this time.
I know you’re going to enjoy adding it to your ancient world explorations right away. Let’s learn from the lessons from the past, one book at a time, and then get busy applying them to our modern-day lives.
Preorder here!
Then forward your receipt to ancientworldbook@gmail.com–have fun reading!

Is the age bracket for 8-10 yr olds to read to themselves or does it mean books that 8-12 yr olds would enjoy?
Jamie Martin
I’d say it’s mostly books that I think that age group would get the most out of–either read aloud or by themselves. In certain cases I specify if a title would be especially good as one or the other. Hope that helps, Megan!

Sorry to hear about your family’s loss, Jamie.

Thanks so much, Amanda.

This looks lovely. A fantastic resource to have. Does the book need to be ordered from Amazon or Barnes and Noble? Can it be ordered from somewhere else? I am not in the USA so the postage from these sites is out of this world.

So it looks like right now it’s available on Kindle via Amazon in Australia–but that’s all at the moment. I’ll keep an eye to see if that changes as things progress. Thanks for your interest, Nikki!

Thanks so much! Just sent screen shots. ????????????
