We have been studying world history and are just in the 1400/1500’s, so we haven’t started American History yet (which is why this giveaway would be great timing for our fall curriculum!). We lived for 2 years in Charleston, though, so they learned about the connections there with the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and even WWII.

We’ve been talking a bit about colonial history following on the heels of a trip to Boston, and they’re also finding that interesting. They are just old enough to have a bit of a concept of time, but young enough that the idea that people lived differently than we do now is mind-blowing to them, which makes all of history a lot of fun!

I have three kids, and homeschool despite several health issues. History is our favorite subject, we try to tie in the past with current events, what the Bible says, and how we make better decisions in the future. I am hoping between the Bible and History class we can teach our children better heros according to character, not how much money they make. We often use hand me down books, and share with others as well. I guess you’d say we are frugal eclectic homeschoolers, just trying to wisely use the things the good Lord blesses us with. This set looks amazing, we would feel honored to try it.

Jazzy (age 10) and Johnny (age 13.5) are working diligently to revive a dormant National Society Children of the American Revolution society in Albuquerque, NM, USA. Jazzy & Johnny are descendants of nearly one dozen ancestors (on both sides of our family) who contributed to the American Revolution. These kids are also active, voting members of the Cherokee Nation and volunteer within their local township. Because of these strong native american and colonial american ties, Johnny and Jazzy are history buffs and are very concerned about reviving the local NSCAR society so that they can team up with other Albuquerque kids and teenagers who want to promote history and the preservation of important historical sites! If selected, Johnny and Jazzy commit that these awesome books shall be shared with the Albuquerque community as part of a mobile, historical reference library. They would like to teach out of these books, using them as curriculum. Currently, there is no such library in Albuquerque (or in New Mexico, for that matter). This allows them to reach out to their home state, which so fiercely needs more education in U.S. history.
