November 17, 2015 //  by Jamie C. Martin

This giveaway has ended; thanks for your interest!

Welcome to this week’s giveaway–sponsored by Pin It! Maps!

From Sara of Pin It! Maps:

“Excite your children with hands-on geography fun!

Pin It! Maps are large Montessori pin maps on foam board with colorful name and national flags. The complete student set includes 8 pin maps, 30 control maps, and 1,147 flags.

Each continent has four control maps that are labeled with one topic: country names, cities, national flags and land & water forms.

In the past they have been limited to Montessori schools because of their high cost, but this is an affordable set for homeschoolers.

Children will have fun pinning 196 National flags – every country in the world. But they won’t stop there!  They will pin the names of countries, cities, oceans, rivers, and mountains.

These maps can be used for all ages.

Children can start with the seven continent flags and work their way towards pinning 331 cities around the world. This set even includes name flags for four waterfalls and 23 volcanoes.”

My boys are 8 and 5, and we are constantly looking at maps and aliases as we read books together, or talk about places our friends have been or where missionaries are working. I want my boys to be quite aware of the world around them, not just of our tiny little community (which is wonderful!) but that there are so many people living in so many other places that are different than here. This would be a fabulous addition to how we learn at home 🙂

I have 3 kids (9, 6, and 5). My 5 year old has been the geography expert in the family since he was 3. He started learning the states now he is on to European countries. We study countries with him and because of my little one the older ones have picked up geography very enthusiastically. We also take a month in the summer and take road trips through out the states. This past summer we went to eastern Canada and the French island Pierre et Miquelon.

    What a fantastic giveaway!

My two are 5 and 6 years old. We aren’t studying geography in any planned-out sort of way…we do a lot of reading and look up the places that pop up in our reading in the atlas. We recently read Beatrice’s Goat & learned about Uganda, and my 5-year-old is reading (well, being read to) about endangered animals in different parts of the world, so we look those places up, too.

The kids loved finding their different books, learning about all the different inventions and customs, and then we went and explored a local German restaurant. The German restaurant was extra fascinating as the women working there were from different regions of Germany, and had different terms for the different food items!

My boys are 5 and 4. My oldest is drawn to American geography–taught himself the location of all 50 states over a year ago–and I can’t wait to extend that excitement to the rest of the world! Biographies of Leif, Columbus, Beethoven and others have drawn my little guys to parts of Europe, and Little Passports has sparked their interest in all countries through landmarks and music so far.

Hello! I am a World School Mom. I travel the world with my family and learn as much as we can together. We are currently backpacking through Southeast Asia with my daughter Lindsay (6) and son Camden (16 months).
Lindsay loves to learn about new cultures all over the globe and loves meeting other travelers. She is loving Asia, but she is most excited to visit Central America. We love learning about ancient Meso-American societies, Mexican traditions and celebrations, and wildlife.
