My kids are five and two, and a kindergarten is coming up! Our favorite winter nature activity is definitely to play in the snow. We really don’t get that much of it!

Our favourite winter nature activity is bird watching – we live in northern Ontario and we get pretty intense winter weather, so I really appreciate the hardy little winter birds that tough out the cold season up here. We have a yard that attracts a lot of birds, and for me bird watching is also nice because we can do it from inside the house looking out the window! 🙂
We have four blessings: 15, 13, 11, and 9 years old. Living in Florida, not much “winter” but we like camping, walking, biking, etc, and just being outside in general.
My kids are 7 and 3. We love to put out homemade or storebought bird feeders In our backyard and watch the different kinds of birds that come to eat. It’s fun to observe the birds eating patterns and note who visits us the most. We often name the birds who come back daily and draw them.

My boys are 9 and 11. We love going out with our camera and guide to identify all the animal tracks. We also love filling our bird feeders and watching for our feathered friends as they visit. We were amazed at how many have been here even during the snowfall.
We love to go sled riding if the weather is right, or going on nature walks and enjoying the more muted colors of winter.
I have 10 children ages 5-18. We live on a 90 acre farm and have a fire pit close to our house and our favorite winter activity is building a big bonfire and cooking hotdogs or s’mores. My girls 11 & 8 love playing in the snow whenever it snow, here in NYC. Typically our outside activity includes going to the playground. They love the swings all year round. They run and play with their friends or make new ones.
My daughter is eight years old and has been home schooled all of her youth. We used ABCMouse.com during her earlier years but we need more than that now. We have an acre of land and part of that land is wooded so we’ve taken yaupon branches and created a earlier version of a teepee. We enjoy the cooler days but they’re far and few in between here in our part of Texas. We try to do different things outside like gardening or tossing pine cones into a pile and gather leaves while we’re out on our walks. This winter has been different since it gets up to the low 80s and only two freeze days so far. We used to have more cold days in the past. I’m watching my daughter grow up every day and I’m not missing it all. Thanks for offering this curriculum to those that are looking for a different way to home school.

My son is 4/almost 5 (4 & 11/12ths, as he likes to tell people). Where we live winter is the rainy season, so we do LOTS of puddle jumping, and love to watch the big snails crawl out and leave shiny trails… and occasionally save them from their questionable choices, lol.

We have six children aged 14, 11, 9, 6,k and twins 2 and a half . We enjoy long coastal walks and lots of outdoor adventures during the winter. In summer it is very hot here and then we swim in the sea lots! We live in Malta in the Mediterranean Sea.

Hello! My kids are 6 and 3, and we like to hike and explore the creek in our neighborhood.
My kids are 15, 13, and 11. I have prayed to be able to use OM… but the cost and no scholarships. I even suggested a payment plan. As God wills. Thank you for this. I love your OM reviews! Fav winter nature study: we have a pond next to our house. We have charted it thru the seasons and winter is so interesting. The kids are always surprised by what survives all winter. They are testing the water for ph and looking at it under the microscope. They have to break the ice. It is turning from pond to swamp, and we have learned so much about wetlands …. even during snow and ice. Adaptation, botany, and just drawing lessons for art there ….
Our littles are 5, 4, and 2. We love roasting marshmallows in our wood burning stove. Cuddling together to read on the couch. Eating warm bowls brimming with comforting soup. Playing in the pale cold sunshine.
My boys are 5 and 2. Our favorite winter nature-based activity (when we lived in Ohio) was going on a scavenger hunt in the winter through the fresh fallen snow. My children are ages 7, 5 and 1, and our favourite activity is walking around the local bird sanctuary to observe snow geese, Owls, cranes, Eagles and of course ducks and more. Not too much snow up here in Vancouver BC (this winter was exceptional).

We live in the snow belt in Upsytate NY, and our favorite thing is to be in nature and learn, no matter what the weather! It’s part of living here! 🙂 We are frequent visitors at our closest Nature center called Beaver Lake where we love to track animals in winter and find the medicinal plants in the other seasons. We created a wormatorium our last school year for our compost, with only 15 worms and ended up with over a couple hundred, while the compost was still in the house! Our garden is our favorite place because we like to let nature grow up and forage it for any medicinal plants. We love to hike as a family and have traveled to almost every state park within three hours of home to visit waterfalls and see nature in it’s amazing beauty that the Lord has blessed us with! We enjoy creation as much as possible! 🙂

my daughter is 9 and our fav think for our snowless winter is to go hiking and check out where birds nests are, when the tree leaves fall and map out the areas to see if the birds return to the same nests in the spring
My child is five years old and I’d love to share the wonders and joys of winter I enjoyed growing up. Alas, we live in a milder climate. This year the weather hasn’t even been cold enough to bundle up so we’ve continued our usual outdoors adventures of hiking, critter searching and general gallivanting.
My three are 2, 4, and 6. If it actually gets cold during winter here in the South, we might play for a little while in the snow. It’s been really mild this year, so we’ve been outside a lot. Tons of swinging from low hanging tree branches, digging in the dirt, and looking at wildlife here. <3

They really enjoy snow play when we have snow, but when the weather is nice they like to build “forts” in the woods while there are still no bugs out to bite them! 🙂 I have looked at OM for years and have just not had the budget, would love to get the chance to try it out!

2 children ages 8 and 12. We live on the North Shore of Lake Superior and love all that winter affords us. Probably our favorite nature activity of all is finding, tracking, and interpreting animal tracks. It’s always a surprise and delight to find fresh tracks, even those tracks of animals we see daily (such as deer). Learning to differentiate the tracks by male, female, where they are going, what they are doing, who they are following is a mystery book come to life! Our biggest surprises this winter were mink in our backyard and twice (once in Jan and once in Feb) bear tracks! It’s ordinarily much too early for the latter to be out and about!

Hi all! Our little pixie is five (just a couple months shy of turning six), and she’s become a bird lover this winter! All things birds. We like to hike, make homemade birdseed ornaments to hang from our trees, count birds, chart the types and when we see them, and sometimes lie in front of the windows to watch and sketch birds. I have hundreds of sketches that our daughter has spent endless hours sketching, coloring and providing a funny backstory for. This season has been good to us!

My kids are 8, 5 and 2 and we live in Orlando, FL, so our favorite winter activity is visiting the theme parks while it is the off season for most people. My son is 7. We love to go sledding on the rare occasion we have snow here in NC!
My kids are 12, 10, 8, 5, and almost 2. Winter here in Oregon is generally mild to allow for hiking and nature walks. This winter, however, we’ve received plenty of snow and ice, so it’s been fun exploring something that is new and rare to us! Thank you for the offer….we love Oak Meadow!
My kids are 10, 8, and 5. Their favorite outdoor winter activity is probably building forts and sledding.

This sounds amazing! I struggle with how to employ the outdoors in our studies although we play outside often! My kids are 8, 8, & 7. Our favorite outdoor activity is exploring a small drainage area from our pond – like a little river with cool rocks, fish and birds.

He is the sweetest little man and loves to collect rocks and winter doesn’t stop him. We find ourselves digging in the snow for rocks and whatever else he may find under the cold layers. We are praying for more snow next year to keep us even busier.
Happy Spring!
