An extra special weekend homeschool links!

February 7, 2020 //  by Jamie C. Martin

It’s crazy hard to believe this, but 10 years ago (February 8, 2010), I published the very first post here on Simple Homeschool!

Yep, this blog has officially reached double-digits!! Does anyone else remember when it looked like this?

In that 10 years, 15 million pageviews have been seen by readers (I almost broke Google Analytics just trying to figure that out!) Over 1,800 posts have been published, many of them by this stellar group of women (& dear friends) who helped this blog grow with their inspirational words.

I have written four books in the past 10 years as well, starting with the very first that also released 10 years ago, Steady Days!

This weekend I’ve put together a special version of weekend links for you, sharing a few highlights from the past decade. Enjoy!

Weekend homeschool links:

  • 10 years ago, the very first post: 6 ways to banish the winter homeschooling blues

  • The post with the most social media shares (currently 142,000 shares on Facebook alone!): 10 ways you’re making your homeschool day harder than it has to be

  • The post that has generated the most blog comments: Homeschooling an Angry Child

  • The post that received a comment from a celebrity: I refuse to steal my kids’ dreams (On homeschooling as a social movement) ~ Seth Godin responded to my thoughts

  • The most viewed post (in terms of page views) over the past decade: 60 TV shows recommended for ages 8-12 (This one totally surprised me!)

  • The most downloaded episode of the Simple Homeschool podcast: 5 things I’d do differently if I started homeschooling now – look for Episode #4!

  • And lastly, a personal favorite: That time I got to meet a childhood hero (and all that happened next)

I’d love to hear from you today too: How long have you been reading Simple Homeschool? What’s your personal favorite post – you can reply here in the comments!

I started reading Simple Homeschool back in 2010! My son was 1 and we were living in Dubai. I was hooked on the “Simple” blogs and loved the idea of homeschooling my son. We ended up doing some private school with him over the years and had a brief stint with a public K12 at home, and now have been homeschooling for 1.5 years. (And I have three more kids 😊)

That’s incredible that you have been following along since the very beginning, Kristina! Thanks so much for all the support!

I’m not sure when I began reading, but it was definitely by 2014! I remembered this post throughout the years and it has been a huge comfort to me as I assist my very different kids in their journey to reading fluency https://simplehomeschool.net/learningtoread/ But I think my absolute favorites are all the day in the life posts. I finally started my own blog a few years back just so I could participate 🙂

That’s so special to hear, Jen, thank you! I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed the day in the life over the years, too! xo

Thank you for the free book. I really like and appreciate your blog and podcast. They have both helped with my homeschool lift even though my kids are 6 and 5.

    Jamie,
I cannot remember when I first began reading, but it was near the beginning and it was before I began homeschooling, because simple living is part of my parenting roots and I have also been a blogger for more than 10 years. My kids are the same age and a couple years younger than yours and they were all little! I can’t say that I have a favorite, but this one springs to mind immediately, because I still use this idea today! https://simplehomeschool.net/the-6-month-inventory/

Thank you for hosting one of my consistent, favorite resources. Here’s to the next 10 years!

    Warmly, Nicola

This means so much, Nicola! Thanks for being such a faithful reader for so long! xo

Thank you, Jamie! I came back to add one other request/suggestion; one of my good, local homeschooling friend families has just one child. She and I have talked a lot about how different that is and the ways in which it can be difficult. I love Simple Homeschool as a resource but I don’t think any of your contributors and few articles are from or for homeschoolers with one child. I would love to see more of that for my friend!

There are some articles about only child homeschooling, Nicola! If she looks in past day in the life archives for Heather’s posts, or also searches for posts from Heather Bruggeman, that should help: https://simplehomeschool.net/a-homeschool-day-in-the-life/
