A homeschool day in the life 2016!

Written by Jamie Martin of Simple Homeschool and Steady Mom

Welcome to the 6th annual homeschool day in the life series here on Simple Homeschool!

Six! Can you believe it? After six years, it continues to be one of my favorite times on this blog– and I hope it’s yours, too.

The first time we did this, back in 2011, my kids were five, six, and seven–I feel as though I can watch them grow up before my eyes just by rereading these posts!

I’m also amazed at just how much has changed in our lives since then.

Don’t you ever feel as though life with young kids is on permanent repeat?! Yet subtly and slowly, homeschool days really do morph and alter, becoming what our families and children need in each life season.

And as you read, do your best not to compare! Look for inspiration and ideas, but don’t get bogged down wishing your family had started Latin last year or frustrated because your kids don’t always love math.

A homeschool day in the life is as unique as each one of our families. And by embracing our uniqueness, we’ll find our greatest strengths.

Consider this post your invitation to come “hang out” with me and my incredible contributors for a day! I’ve also listed below the planned date for each post to publish, so you can make sure you don’t miss the ones that interest you most.

I also need to ask your help on one thing: Could you leave a quick comment below IF you’d be interested in writing a homeschool day in the life post on your own blog and linking up here at the end of the series?

We’ve done that in the past and it’s been fabulous, but I only want to continue if it’s a real help and interest to you–so please let me know below!

This post will serve as a landing page for the series – feel free to bookmark it to refer back to as we go along. I will update it with links to each post as they publish.

And if you just can’t wait to get started? Go head to the archives of this series, where you’ll find plenty of past day in the life posts to read!

  1. I really love the link up at the end, it’s helped me find families and resources that I still follow and use!

  2. Yes! I would love to write a post, I have done so for a few years in a row and it’s always nice to see how much we accomplish in a day. 🙂 And of course I love reading others’ posts.

  3. yes please, I LOVE the link up! And I often point new homeschoolers towards it as the best way to see how many different ways there are to homeschool.

  4. Hi Jamie! I always look forward to these day in the life posts and would be happy to be part of a link up this year!

  12. What a wonderful idea! I just read through some of the archives, and boy, am I relieved to see that other Moms live with chaos, too!
I would love to to link up and write a post about a day in our life!

  13. I enjoy reading the posts and would also be willing to write one should the opportunity arise. I am thankful for this space you provide that allows us to share, learn and grow in our experience.

  14. Hi, I would totally be interested in a link up. However I have never done one so would love an overview of how this works. Writing a day in the life of homeschooling was on my list to do, so it works out perfectly!

  16. I would be happy to write a day in the life 🙂

    • Your answer was just what I needed. It’s made my day!

  17. I’d love to write a “Day in the Life” post! I love reading what others are doing and how differently that looks for all of us! I’m looking forward to Simple Homeschool in 2016! 🙂

  18. Would you consider coming up with a hashtag that we can all use on IG for a day or week? I wouldn’t have time to blog the day but I would love to post pictures during the day and get a glimpse into others’ days on IG 🙂

  19. Yes! I love reading these and wrote a post last year and linked. Would love to do this again. Even though my youngest is now in high school, it was great to write out “a day in the life” and I found my readers were very interested in hearing about high school!

  20. I love your posts and would be totally interested in a linkup!

  23. I love reading everyone’s “Day in the Life ” post and I would like to link up as well.

  24. I enjoy reading these posts and would love to link up at the end. I have been meaning to write about our homeschool day for a while, and keep putting it off, this will be a good way to get it done!

  25. I love this series and am looking forward to the link up also!

  26. Yes – I’m looking forward to the link up! It’s the motivation I need to share a post about our day, and it’ll be fun to look back at them years from now. 🙂

  27. I live the “Day in the Life” posts! It’s good for me to see what works for other people and that it’s okay to adapt to what works best for my family!

  28. Yes, I would share a day in the life post if you have a link-up. I love reading about others’ days!

  29. I would love to post a day in the life and link it. This is our fifth year homeschooling and I have 3 daughters, ages 3, 6 and 10. We use a Waldorf inspired approach.

  30. I would love to share our day in the life as well – 3 kids but only homeschooling the oldest who has Tourette Syndrome and several other special needs. 🙂

  31. I have never blogged and not sure what it means. But if it means writing a little story about what our day looks like I would be willing to share.

  32. Count me in!

  33. I’d love to do a link up, as well! Just recently restarted blogging. I enjoy these posts every year.

  34. I think I almost have to do one just to see what we really accomplish in a day.

  35. I love this annual series and cannot believe it is time already. 2015 really flew by for me.
I am interested in blogging my day in the life of our homeschool. I have in the past, but not every year. Peace and light…

  36. This is my favorite series! I’ll definitely write one of my own. Fun!!

  37. I will definitely write a “Day in the Life” post. Last year it was so helpful to write out the anchors in our day, I even referenced the post a few times to see how things changed over the year. Thanks for hosting last year – I hope this year is a success too.

  38. Oh, yes, I’m not sure I’ve ever written a “Day in the Life” but I’ve read many of them and found them helpful. It’s so nice to find out that all families have some things in common with homeschooling. None of us are weirdos!
I’d love to link up a “Day in the Life” post!

  42. I am a homeschool mom of 2 children. I would like to write and share my experiences as a mom who balances caring for my kids and managing my chronic mental illness, including Bipolar Disorder. I actually facilitate a free national call in support group for parents with mental illness and have spoken publicly, including a conference, on parenting with a mental illness. I am currently finishing a literature review on parental mental illness.

  43. I love love the day in the life series and I would love to write a post to link up here!

  44. Thank you for all your inspiration and encouragement. I love these day-in-the-life posts. I haven’t written my blog for so long but I would love to write one of these and it would get me started again!
    Bless you, Rachel

  45. I’d try to link up!

  46. Yes, I’d like to write a post on my blog and link up (tinahollenbeck.blogspot.com). I’ve been homeschooling all the way through and just started high school with my daughters, ages 13 and 14.

  47. Happy to link up – my kids are 9, 8, 5, 4, and 2. But I must disagree with this statement: “Don’t you ever feel as though life with young kids is on permanent repeat?!” I wish that’s how it was but they grow and change so FAST!!!! Every time I have things figured out for 5 minutes, someone changes on me again. I’m literally changing our homeschool approach every single season (so yes, 3 or 4 times a year) because that’s how often they need it. I could write a different “day in the life” every week, it seems like.

  48. I was just thinking about writing a day in the life post so I will definitely link up-that will be so much fun!

  53. I love this series. I’m hoping you can get another family that has an only child in it. Yes, yes I know “an only child must be so easy to school”. It has it’s own challenges, and hearing about another family’s way of facing them is a huge help. This is our first year homeschooling and I would like all the help I can get!

  54. I love that you do this!! I love getting ideas from other moms in my same boat!
I would love to include a post! I’m not very consistent with my blog these days unfortunately but I always have the desire to post about our homeschool experience. What is the format and timing on getting s post to you? I hope that I could say something to inspire others just as others inspire me! 🙂
    Thanks Jamie!

  56. I love reading day in the life posts and like sharing mine with others.

  62. I would love to do a link up! I am actually launching my blog in the next week or so, and I want to do a day in the life homeschooling post. Besides coming here and adding our link, what do we need to put in our post in regards to simple homeschool? Link to this landing page?

  63. I would love to participate in this link up. I am new to the blogging community and just stumbled upon this event for the first time. Thank you!

  64. I’ve been reading through the Day in the Life series and would love to participate in a link up 🙂 I’m mostly immersed in the online Waldorf community so it’s a nice change to read what all different homeschoolers are doing!

  65. Kristy Miller says:

Thank you for this series. It has been such an encouragement to me as I started Homeschooling (again)this past year. I have been searching for the “right” way to organize my day and not finding an answer. There is such a freedom in the fact that no two families school in the exact same way. There is no “right” way.

  66. I would love to join! I have been blogging for a few years, but I don’t think I’ve ever done a proper “day in the life post”. Thanks!

  67. We’d love to link up a day in the life post! I am not sure I have done one of those; we’ve summarized a day in our homeschooling life but I definitely left a lot out!

  68. I really enjoy reading day in the life posts, and they were the thing that helped me picture what homeschooling would actually be like when I started considering it. I’d love to share! http://ourhomeschoolingdays.com/travelling-studying-homeschool-day-life/

  69. I would love to also share…. is this a linky thing? How can one participate still? Thanks a bunch, this is super fun. 🙂

Thank you for the wonderful series and the opportunity to share!

  72. I want to share!

  73. I love writing and photography, so I had fun about a year ago trailing around with my camera, documenting one of our days with a 2 year old and a 4 year old … and I did make a blog post out of it. I realize though that my children are pretty young, and I am just starting at home-schooling, so I am no “expert” … so perhaps it wouldn’t be of interest to many. But I sure had fun documenting it and I would be glad to share it if you want it. 🙂 http://www.thegodlyhome.com/living/general/a-glimpse-into-daily-life/

  74. I’d like to share as well!
