We rather unsuccessfully grew pumpkins this year for the first time! (Can’t take credit for the big one, sadly.) Not too much of a result, but at least I got a pretty picture out of our efforts!

Enjoy this week’s homeschool inspiration:

  • My new little book page pumpkin :: From contributor Anne Bogel of Modern Mrs. Darcy
  • Free Dolphin Tale 2 science curriculum :: Homeschool Movie Club
  • I’m just so glad he didn’t sit on the line :: Quill and Camera
  • A free audio story for children (& families) worried about Ebola :: Sparkle Stories
  • The mission field in your living room :: My post this week on Steady Mom

My recommendations this week:

Trishna and I took turns reading parts of this reader to each other this week, and I was so taken with the short excerpts–each with a thoughtful lesson to ponder over. The best part? FREE on Kindle – yay!

I’m so glad I stumbled upon The Children’s Book of America at our local library. The collection of  stories and sweet illustrations have inspired all of us and been the perfect addition to our US history unit. It’s out of print, but Amazon has plenty of inexpensive used copies available!

Earlier this week I sank my exhausted body into bed and pulled this book off the shelf. Clearly it was time to flip through its pages again! It reminded me that this type of stress is optional, and that margin in living does not mean selfishness, but endurance for the long haul.

I’m all for getting kids in the kitchen, and monthly boxes delivered by Raddish Kids can help. Add cooking to your ‪curriculum with these deliveries that include 3 recipes, an ingredient list, an apron and monthly patch to add to it, and extra activities to learn more each month.

For all the Magic School Bus lovers out there, Educents is offering 4 nature science kits for just 2 more days at over 30% off the retail price. It includes this Weather Science lab, featured on the Today Show, plus three other kits!
