Welcome to this week’sΒ giveaway–sponsored by Be Naturally Curious!

From Valerie at Be Naturally Curious:

“I am a mom to two energetic and inquisitive young girls and also happen to be a former college Biology professor.

One of my greatest passions in life is to help ALL kids experience the joy in learning science and exploring nature!

I believe this is best done by focusing on concepts and reinforcing learning with multiple, non-traditional teaching techniques, which is why I started Be Naturally Curious, creating science and nature mini-courses for kids grades K-5.

I love to share and discuss ideas about science and learning on our Facebook pageΒ β€”please come connect with us!

I’ve enlisted the help of several other scientists, many of whom are also moms, to make mini-courses on really important or really fascinating scientific concepts (these are the real thingβ€”nothing watered down here!).

Current mini-courses include:

  • Take Off with Airplane Science
  • A Wide World of Vertebrates
  • A Butterfly’s Evening Adventure
  • Freddie and His Ocean Friends
  • Molecules are Everywhere
  • The Adventures of Carbon
  • Discovering DNA
  • Mighty Magnets

They are designed to give parents the tools to teach higher-level scientific concepts to all styles of learners. Whether you have a kinesthetic learner or a visual one, your child can master everything from molecules and DNA to ecosystems and the carbon cycle.

As moms ourselves, we specifically designed the courses so they can be done easily at home or on a trip with minimal suppliesβ€”most materials can be cut directly from the course print out. We believe science can be done anywhere!

Each mini-course focuses on a different scientific concept, whether it be how airplanes fly or how dolphins echolocate.

Every mini-course is designed to appeal to all kinds of learners and a wide range of ages (grades K-5), and includes a beautifully illustrated story, a board or card game, a movement-based activity, a craft or modeling activity, and an experiment or outdoor exploration activity.

Try them with all the kids in your familyβ€”each person has his or her own best way to learn!

Each mini-course also includes additional resources to allow kids to follow their curiosity (the most important thing we can develop!) and concept badges kids can add to their Science Tool Kits (print out included in each mini-course.)

The prize

One Simple Homeschool reader will win a complete set of Be Naturally Curious mini-courses (worth $100), in PDF format!

PDFs can be printed in their entirety or in part for the activity materials.

  1. My eight year old is the embodiment of naturally curious. Our discussions just yesterday included if protons are smaller than neutrons and why different birds can’t breed.

  2. My children are 7,6, and 2. Their curiosity tends to focus on mechanics and animals! πŸ™‚

  3. My soon to be 9 year old and 6 year old sons are naturally curious and are constantly observing the world around them. Animals, weather, the built environment, vegetation, you name it!

  4. Excellent giveaway! Mine are 8, 5, & 1. Birds have been a constant subject for the big kids with a side of chemistry for the oldest and earth science for the middle.

  5. My son is 10, he loves to read and loves experiments, chemistry and loves to learn.

  6. My kids are ages 14, 13, 11, 9, 8, 6, 5, 4, 2, and 9 months. They are naturally curious this summer about birds and insects; we’ve spent a lot of time outdoors, paying attention to the sights and sounds of what’s around us. My 13-year-old son is quite curious right now about electricity, circuits, and generally how mechanical things work.

  7. My 9-year old is naturally curious about animals. She has an insatiable appetite for learning about their world.

  8. I have a 5, 3, and almost 1 year old. My kids are especially curious about space and the ocean. πŸ™‚

  9. I liked “Be Naturally Curious” and “Simple Homeschool” on facebook. πŸ™‚

  10. My children are 6, 9, 12, and 16. A few topics that currently interest them are chemistry, archeology, and paleontology.

  11. My son is 4 and is interested in bones of the human body.

  12. My kids are 6, 3, and 1.5. My 6 year old loves nature study and electronics while my 3 year old is fascinated by animals!

  13. My daughter is 14 and she loves science! We mainly enjoy animals, aquatic life, birds chemistry and experiments.

  14. Alisha Shoemate says:

Our daughter is 7 and is naturally curious about ALL things nature related. She is truly I her element when learning about nature.

  15. My 14 year old boy is taken with astronomy and dreams of exploring other worlds, while my 12 year old daughter is more interested in animals, particularly the furry domesticated kind. My 8 year old boy is more the chemist/physicist who wants to figure out what will make things explode or collapse.

  16. My daughter is 9. She is curious about plants and animals.

  17. my kids are 11, 7 and 3 and love to learn about animals and the ocean.

  18. My children are 5 and almost 3 and they love almost all sciences, but especially learning about dinosaurs, life science, chemistry, volcanoes, astronomy, and music.

  19. My 6 year old is naturally curious about space, dinosaurs and superheros. He also loves mixing things together for his chemistry experiments. My 10 month old is naturally curious about the sounds that things make and what it takes to get walking.

  20. Liked both pages on facebook. Thank you! πŸ™‚

  21. My boys, ages 9 and 4, are naturally curious about … well, depends on what caught their eye lately! The younger one loves animals, and the older one used to love cars, but now wonders about electricity, weather, engineering, chemistry, and anatomy. A book, a video, a picture, a conversation, something they saw out of the window, almost anything can spark their curiosity!

  22. My six year old is naturally curious about the body and bones, her 4 year old sister is too, because her big sister is. πŸ˜‰

  23. My kindergartener (5.5) is quite curious about the human body. His biggest passion has to be engineering, machines, different forms of energy all due to his love of trains!

  24. My daughter is 12 and loves science. She is really into science experiments and figuring out how things work by taking them apart. My other kids are 7, 15, 16 and 21.
