Welcome, welcome, welcome, friends! I’ve been getting questions from many of you, asking if I’ll be running a book club again this summer, and the answer is YES!!
We’ll be using my newly released book, Introverted Mom, as our ticket to a literary tour around the world!
Don’t worry if you consider yourself an extrovert, this year’s club is designed for you and yours as well:
We’ll deep dive into the lives and worlds of the four classic authors I feature in my book: Louisa May Alcott, L.M. Montgomery, Jane Austen, and Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Take a peek at the themes for each week of the club:
Calendar: | Theme: |
---|---|
Weeks 1 & 2: June 10th/June 17th | Louisa May Alcott – Literary Concord, Massachusetts |
Weeks 3 & 4: June 24th/July 1st | L.M. Montgomery – Prince Edward Island, Canada |
Weeks 5 & 6: July 8th/July 15th | Jane Austen – England |
Weeks 7 & 8: July 22nd/29th | Laura Ingalls Wilder – Pioneering Adventures |
Each book club member will receive my special summer book club list, which includes over 100 titles for all ages that you can use as you discover these authors together!
On top of that we’ll have movie recommendations and links in our private Facebook group to enjoy as a family!
The Goals
The goals I have for our summer book club this year are two fold:
1. To come away with a deeper understanding of the personalities that make up our family, leading to less stress and more peace at home, and
2. To have a lot of fun with our kids as we learn about famous authors and classic literature, the places they lived that inspired them, and the world–through books and movies we’ll enjoy all summer long!
How big of a commitment is the club this year?
As always, you can jump in as much or as little as you’d like! There will be one practical challenge to take part in each week–with plenty more to add in if you choose (or to leave aside as it suits you!).
We’re also starting early enough so if you need to take one or more weeks off due to vacation plans or scheduling conflicts, you can still participate on your own timeline and finish by the end of summer.
As ever, this is a fun activity to add to your summer, not a stressful obligation!
How Will It Work?
Book club members will receive approximately one email each week, which will include the links and information you’ll need for the upcoming week of the club.
We’ll also have a private Facebook group open for discussion and extra materials, where everyone can post and share insights from your own corners of the world! (If you’re not on Facebook, you’re still welcome to participate without this element.)
What about the Read the World Summer Book Club?
I love how many of you ask me about this club every time May comes around–it is such a gift to know how it has blessed you. Don’t worry, I have thought of you as well:
While we won’t be running the read the world club exactly as in previous summers, I’m working on a special summer reading list that includes my favorite global book recommendations.
You’ll also get access to the Read the World printables, so you can continue to use those for your family if you’d like!
Invite a friend or two hundred
We have a little time before our club officially kicks off, making this the perfect time to spread the word to your co-op friends, mom groups, etc! Just use the buttons at the bottom of this post or send folks directly to this link.
As the summer goes on, feel free to share the insights you’re having and the titles you and your kids are enjoying with the hashtag #IntrovertedMom on Instagram so we can all take a peek!
How to Register
This year there’s still no fee to join our summer book club–you just need to order a copy of my book Introverted Mom: Your Guide to More Calm, Less Guilt, and Quiet Joy.
Don’t worry if you’re an extrovert, one of the fun surprises since the book came out has been hearing from extroverts how much they’ve also enjoyed and learned from it. And with a massive self-care list (organized by time) as well as literary explorations and recommendations, it’s a title you’ll come back to again and again.
If you haven’t ordered it already, go ahead and do so now, as it seems that every summer Amazon sells out of my books due to book club demand!
Once you’ve done that, you can:
Register for the book club here and you’ll receive an email with more details to help you get ready!!
Are you ready for our literary tour this summer? I can’t wait!
Again, here’s the form to register for the book club! And heads up: Make sure you check your Promotions folder in Gmail and/or your spam/junk folders if you don’t see the email within a day after signing up as they often get flagged there! Mark it as “Not Promotions” so you won’t miss future updates! Email me (jamie@simplehomeschool.net) if you still can’t find it after searching.
Christie
My children, and I , are also doing summer reading:) We are thoroughly enjoying , Do Hard Things, by Alex and Brett Harris. The biggest blessing yesterday was when my older student (son) asked if we could read Acts. We have been reading the New Testament as Literature, and we read the Old Testament as Biblical History. It has been a simple and rewarding way to study the best literature and spend time in God’s Word. I am new to your website and look forward to listening to the encouraging messages. Blessings in the Lord Jesus Christ!

Oh my goodness, Christie, I am reading the exact same book to my teens right now!
