Weekend giveaway: Great Homeschool Conventions

January 25, 2014 //  by Jamie C. Martin

Great Homeschool Conventions

This giveaway has ended; thanks for your interest!

Welcome to this weekend’s giveaway–hosted by Great Homeschool Conventions!

Great Homeschool Conventions will hold this year’s regional conventions in South Carolina (March), Ohio (April), and California (June). Each convention features a huge (and I mean huge!) Homeschool Curriculum exhibit hall.

This year’s featured speakers include Dr. Benjamin Carson, Heidi St. John, Dr. Thomas Woods, Dr. Kathy Koch, Gianna Jessen, Dr. Jay Wile, Cathy Duffy, Jim Weiss, Steve Demme, and many more.

When I attended and spoke at last year’s convention in Ohio, I was truly impressed with the professionalism and organization that had gone into the event. The number of sessions to choose from meant something for everyone no matter your needs.

Attendees get to choose from hundreds of encouraging, equipping, information-packed workshops…selecting those that are most applicable to YOUR homeschooling efforts. There is also an optional children’s program and a special track for teens–real faith for the real world.

One Simple Homeschool reader will receive a family registration to the conference location of your choice!

* Cincinnati, Ohio (April 24-26, 2014)
* Ontario, California (June 12-14, 2014)

    I have a 10 year old and a 1 year old and would love to attend one of these because we never have yet! I also would love to hear Dr. Carson and some of the other speakers.

    We have a 5 year & 16 month old. We will begin formal homeschooling this year.

    The conference would be a great way to see up close all the choices I’m researching. And, it would help our plan feel more solidified.

    I’ve liked both Facebook pages as well.

    We have a 9, 7, and 4-year-old. I would love to attend because I have never been! We would make a road trip out of it! We are 7 hours away from the CA conference. Thanks for the chance!

    We are a Canadian homeschooling family (two boys – ages 7 and 6) and have been inspired by many of the speakers presenting this year (Dr. Carson, Jim Weiss, Cathy Duffy). We’re in our second year of homeschooling and enjoying the journey. We would love to drive down and take part in this conference, and perhaps stay an additional day to visit the Creation Museum!

    We are new to homeschooling and looking forward to starting in the next couple years. We have a son part time (9) and a daughter full time (3). We will be homeschooling our daughter and welcome the opportunity to gather as much information as possible prior to starting this adventure.

    Our kids are 4, 3 and 7 months. The oldest should start kindergarten this fall, but homeschooling is a big part of our dream for our family, and I need some encouragement and ideas for how to make it happen (while also working full- or part-time from home). I want to meet more people like us!

    My son is 7 1/2 and I’m glad to read that there is a kid’s track! I’d love to hear Matt Walsh talk in person. And Dr. Carson! I remember reading his book as a young teen and being very inspired.

    My kids are 4.5 and 2 with another one on the way. I’m planning to attend the Ohio convention so that I can choose and purchase curriculum for next year. Free admission would be great since I’ll probably be spending a bit on books!

    I homeschool my only and she is 10. I wanted to go to this conference last year, but was unable to. So I would love the opportunity to go this year! I want to go to this one because of the large exhibitor hall and because of the speakers who will be there. Sounds like a wonderful conference to attend!

    I have 4 (almost 5) year old, and a 2 1/2 year old, and one due in June. We’ve done some preschooling this year, and Kindergarten starts for my oldest next year. I really want to get off on the right foot, and follow about 5 or 6 blogs for inspiration and guidance, but still have so many questions. I want to attend Homeschool 101 with Cathy Duffey, find out answers to my legal questions, hear best practices for teaching reading, hear from Matt Walsh, and visit the curriculum exhibitor’s hall.

    My son turns 4 in a few weeks and my daughter will be 2 next week(!) We have planned to homeschool since long before they arrived, but there are so many options I’d like to see it all and learn about what will work for our children and family.

    I am the mother of a four month old. Due to many advancements in certain political agendas in the past decade, including but not limited to the wide spread implementation of Common Core Curriculum and the many examples of increasingly hostile attitudes toward Christian beliefs in the public school practice of “education,” I am already trying to educate myself on homeschooling for my (what I hope will be) expanding family. The opportunity to avail myself of the knowledge at this conference (closest to me is Ohio) would be a fantastic! Thanks! And glad I found your blog.

    My kids are 12, 9, 7, and 18 months. When I lived in KY I used to attend the convention in Ohio and loved it. Last year we moved to Texas, and I was so sad there wasn’t a GHC to attend close. My girls are almost 9 and 7. I’m hoping to homeschool them for the first time next year. I would LOVE to attend because I’m dying to actually look at curriculum in person – hold it in my hand, get a feel for it – and a convention would give me the most exposure. Thanks!

    Our children are 8, 6, and 4 and this is our third year of homeschooling. I would love for us to attend the GHC for the first time as we are returning to the states next month, after serving 12 years as missionaries in West Africa… It would give me a chance to help our family transition from homeschooling in a remote location to homeschooling in the U.S. Thanks!

    I have two 10-year olds adopted from China. I started homeschooling this year because their brief stint in the public school didn’t work out well. They needed to go at their own pace – and we needed to avoid some of the bullying that was going on. I have a 4 (almost 5) year old, a 2 1/2 year old, and one on the way (due in June). I have started doing preschool/tot school with my kids this year, but as we embark on our first Kindergarten year, I really want to start off on the right foot. I have been following about 5-6 homeschool blogs for inspiration and guidance, which is helpful, but have been wanting to do something more focused like attend a convention to answer a lot of questions I have. I would love to go to Homeschool 101 with Cathy Duffey, sit in on workshops/sessions about legal matters, best practices in teaching reading and math, network with other homeschool families, and visit the curriculum exhibitor’s hall.

My son is in Kindergarten this year and we are doing traditional B&M school in the morning and homeschooling in the afternoon. For 1st grade, we will move to full homeschooling. I need help and inspiration!

    I have a 9 year old, 7 year old, and 5 year old. I love going to the convention. It is such a great time to check out curriculum options and to hear great speakers. I can research other options if current curriculum choices have not worked or learn how to more effectively use curriculum that is working. It is also a time to get motivated to stay the course with homeschooling because it isn’t always easy, and I find myself getting very discouraged at times throughout the year. It is perfect timing to get a reminder why we have chosen to homeschool in the first place.

    Hi. My children range from 13, 12 and 9. My husband and I want to attend to aid in recharging us for the next school year. Our middle son wants to try out public school next year. I want to hear from other families how they handle the constant questions about public school from their children. We know we are doing the right thing for our children, but we need some more encouragement. It’s normal for him to be curious, but how do you help them understand it’s not the best thing for them?

    Hi Jamie..my kids are 21, 18 and 14…the two oldest are college students and our “baby” Sarah is our last homeschooler. She is a ninth grader and we haven’t been to a homeschool convention in several years. I would love for our family to attend the Ohio conference in April to breathe a little freshness into our homeschool. Sarah is particularly interested in gardening and would love to pursue a high school level botany course of study. She is studying Chinese with the hope to minister in China to orphans one day in the future. Thanks for the encouragement from your blog as well as this opportunity. God bless!

    I would love to go to this convention to gather more information. This is only my second year homeschooling. We just recently relocated to another part of the state (my husband is military) and I feel like starting over because we don’t have the same support we had in our previous location

    I have 1 child, my daughter Dakota who is 6. This is our first year homeschooling and though it has been a bumpy road, who have found a common ground that is working for us right now. Before the weather turned cold, we were having loads of out door fun with her lessons and we are really looking forward to warmer days again. I am planning to attend the convention in Greenville, one because I am looking to hearing a couple of the speakers, but mostly because I want to visit the curriculum exhibit!! This year I have been pulling from many resources to create a curriculum for Dakota, but I would really love to be able to put my handa on a curriculum I can look through before investing my money! The the thought of ordering a curriculum before I see it and it not working for my child just worries, because lets face it.. box curriculums arent cheap! I would love to win this, but even if I don’t, I was ecstatic to see the 10% off discount for simplehomeschool! Every little bit helps! Thank you! 🙂

    My children are 9, 6, 3, and 1. I would absolutely love to go to the great homeschool convention, because I had always thought I couldn’t homeschool because of my oldest childs issues. Three weeks before school started I was convinced by some homeschooling moms that I needed to homeschool because of his issues. The more I read the more I knew they were right. With little time to prepare I pulled my two oldest out of school.. no time to research curriculums and on a tight budget ebayed all of the most common curriculum I knew of (Abeka). Great curriculum and working well for my younger son. I need something very different for my older son. This convention will really educate me hopefully not only on the different types of curriculum, but also different styles so that I can help all four of my children be the best that they can be. Not tobe mention I need anyto organizational tips I canhave get. 🙂 Thanks, Kimberly
