Age 6. I have heard many good things about Oak Meadow. I like Oak Meadows hands on learning. I looked at the first grade package and liked the concepts to be taught for the year. Including calender cycle, letters, numbers, fairy tales and so on.

My children are 12, 8, and 5. We have been homeschooling all of the children, basically since birth. Having just come through a rough couple of years of sojourning and using a very rigid fundamentalist curriculum we have decided to make the transition to the much more gentle, creative, and flexible Oak Meadow curriculum. Having explored the samples and talked to families using Oak Meadow, we really feel that this will meet all of the children’s learning needs and styles, and allow them to walk the world in wonder again 😀

My daughter is 7 and going into 2nd grade. We pulled her out of public school mid year last year as it was not a good fit at all. She has numerous vision issues requiring vision therapy, Tourette’s syndrome, ADHD, anxiety and is gifted. She tells me almost daily how much happier and less stressed she is at home. She was having panic attacks almost daily at her previous school. Waldorf consistently comes up in my research for a scientific approach to special needs. She is a very creative girl and so far what I’ve learned of waldorf and incorporated into our lives has fit very well. We have been saving up for OM2 and winning this would free up a lot of funds for other homeschool supplies and adventures! I also have a 4 year old who I think Oak Meadow will fit well in the future! I have already liked both the Facebook pages! 🙂

My sons are 12 and 15. I love the fact that OM is flexible and it challenges your kids to think about the content they just read about. There is no read and fill in blanks and I love that! I also love that there are many options for the student to express their knowledge about the subject!

    August 8, 2014 at 7:27 am

My children are 3 and 5 years old and adore stories, natural learning and exploring. Oak Meadow just makes sense to us all. Emphasizing reading, rituals, creative skills and organic learning is what we have been looking for. I’ve basically unschooled my children (at such a young age! What’s wrong with the world!!!??!!) and have found my children. Two individuals who love to explore, love, learn and be themselves. From what I can see Oak Meadows supports us all in this journey and even if I don’t win the curriculum, I’m going to tell all how awesome it is and ordering it anyhow!

Thank you all for making me realise I’m not alone and crazy because I want my children to be loved, happy and healthy and not part of a corporate factory scheme.

Much love and keep up the good work! I am about to hit like on both of the above (or below?) mentioned fb pages to increase my chances of winning and sharing the awesomeness.

I have 2 kids, 3 & 5, and we have talked about homeschooling since they were born. I work and farm, my husband is home with the kids. They are always asking such big questions and we answer them. I am worried they won’t get full answers at school because they are “too young.” My kids are already very in tune with life and death because of the farm. They help on butchering days! We also want to travel with them, and that is a better teaching time then any school day.

My children are preschool, and first grade. I have steered clear of purchasing an all-encompassing curriculum in the past, but I think Oak Meadow would be a gentle-yet-structured approach that would be a good foundation for our school year.

Pretty positive both my kids would love oak meadow! When starting my homeschooling I wanted to do the waldorf approach but didn’t no where to start, then got sold into a structure very black and white curriculum…which isn’t working well for my dreamer and free spirited children. I pray I can switch it up with oak meadow!!

I’ve been struggling to find ways to reignite my children’s confidence and love of learning after trauma they experienced in public school last year, but one thing they both truly enjoy is the natural world which is why I think they might find their sparks again if we tried Oak Meadow.

My son is 5 years old and will be in Kinder this year. Last year was very rough on him and I, because we found out that he is autistic. His first year of school wasn’t very good to him before I had him diagnosed. Lots of changes for his learning journey started last year. I’m choosing Oak Meadow because it takes learning a whole new level, sort-of outside of the box and I believe it will help my son grow in learning and understanding about life with hands on learning. This would be a great gift for my son. 🙂

I perused through some sample lessons on your website and found several instances in which it gives the student multiple options to continue the learning of a particular topic by watching something, reading something, listening to something, building something, drawing something, or exploring for that something outdoors. I LOVE that! As will my children 🙂

We were looking for a program that starts gentle and gives kids a good foundation to build apon while invoking creative think and we found it all with Oak Meadow. Would love to win our curriculum for next year.

I have two students that would fit the 8th grade and below bracket. One is in 7th grade (13) and the other is in 5th grade (10). I think that Oak Meadow might be just what I am looking for. I have written much of my own curriculum for these two students, and as I am getting older, I find that I need to lean more on outside curriculum and I would appreciate Oak Meadow’s structure. At the same time, it seems like Oak Meadow also has many choices in terms of how they would like to learn the material and I like that.

My children are 6 and 3. I’m a previous teacher and decided to homeschool my children because my son is a strong independent learner. He thrives more on his own than traditional instruction. That’s what I love about homeschooling. It is more one on one student centered learning. This is the type of learning where my children learn the best without all the added pressures of being “forced” to learn things. My son is more further along than he would be in a traditional setting with traditional curriculum. This curriculum seems to be exactly what we are looking for being that it is student centered. 🙂 I would love to be given the chance to try it out!

Wesley is my 12 year old son. This is my first year homeschooling him, and we are looking for a more relaxed approach. A less “textbook” approach. I think Oak Meadow will allow us to have more time to do field trips, nature walks, and be involved in our community groups.

  466. Rebecca

    August 8, 2014 at 12:25 pm

My sons are 5 and 3. The eldest has sensory processing disorder (along with some other interesting bits), but we find the natural world causes much less sensory overload than the man-made world so nature studies are great for us.

My kids are 11 and 10 . We’ve been homeschooling since the beginning and have always enjoyed a more natural, gentle, non-textbook approach to learning. Oak Meadow’s curriculum offers those types of activities throughout the year in a variety of subjects. Our kids/curious little monkeys are almost five and almost three. I actually just received my Oak Meadow catalog in the mail the other day (*squeal*). It’s been on my favorites list for a couple of years as we’ve mulled over when and how to begin homeschooling. Their approach seems to most closely match ours with the extra oomph of keeping us on our game…like something we would do already, but with ways for me and my husband to help our kids tie together and apply all that we’re exploring as a family. I’ve been looking for something that “feels right” and the resources falling under the same style as Oak Meadow have really caught my eye!

My girls are 6, almost 4 and 2. After struggling with reading and writing last year, I was so encouraged reading about Oak Meadow’s curriculum. I love the use of stories to teach (my girls LOVE stories of all kinds) and the well rounded approach to education. I love how 1st and 2nd grade curricula built on what we did independently last year (indoor garden, bird watching). I am so glad to have been exposed to this!

My kids are 8 & 6. I think both of my kids would love this approach and after reviewing their website, I would like to incorporate this into our homeschooling. I love the part I read that said “Particularly, in regard to the young children who would be using this First Grade curriculum, we feel the best approach is
to integrate the recommendations concerning stories, notebooks,
poems, music, etc., into the natural flow of daily activities, so the
child doesn’t learn to make a distinction between “school” and
“life.” In this way, the child gradually develops the attitude that
expanding one’s knowledge and capabilities is part of the process
of life, and indeed is what life is all about.” I love that thinking. I was educated in the traditional sense and I want to get away from that in our homeschooling.

I have 4 kids. My oldest son is 8, my twin daughters are 7 and my youngest is 4. I tried oak meadow with my son years ago but it wasn’t a good fit for him at the time. I always thought it would be an excellent curriculum for my daughters so this spring I took the plunge and got the second and third grade curriculums. We started working this summer and the kids love it! I really like how it’s very interactive with the kids and doesn’t require a high reading ability early on. Even though my kids are all gifted, the older three are “reading delayed ” and last year I found it very challenging having to read complicated instructions over and over for them to do any schoolwork! My kids especially love the music and knitting that is incorporated into the program. Never have they begged to do school work, but this year they’ve actually participated enthusiastically! I love oak meadow!

My children are 4, 2, and 4 months old. My oldest would be starting JK in September, but we feel strongly about homeschooling and will keep him home. We are involved with a local biodynamic farm and have been introduced to Waldorf Education, as it is a land trust situation with the local Waldorf school involved. I would love to integrate Waldorf principles into our homeschool journey. I am a classroom teacher, but see how the Ontario curriculum is not meeting the needs of our children. They need a greater focus on arts, nature and play and less emphasis on academics. Oak meadow curriculum was recommended to me by a member of our local Transition group and I would love to try this curriculum myself but can’t afford it at this time. I would be ecstatic to win this contest! Oak Meadow seems like a good fit for our family. My daughter is 6! I love the nature based way of learning. I would love to win this for my daughter and myself. I’m a single mom and I have an extreme anxiety disorder. My friends ask me ask the time if homeschooling my daughter could me an added stress. Well, even if it is I’m not going to stop. It’s what’s best for her and I know it’s the right path for us. My daughter also had a hard time sitting and doing copy work all the time. This would benefit us greatly.

My children are 4, 2, and 3 months. I have had my eye on oak meadows for several years now. I was an ecological educator prior to being a full time mama and am seriously thinking of homeschooling. I am attracted to this curriculum because of its simplicity, rythym, and nurturing aspects. I love the emphasis on nature. I think it would be a perfect fit! Thank you!

This is for my grandchildren. My daughter currently homeschools her 9 year old Autistic son and 3 year old daughter. She’s now expecting twins. I think this system would be very helpful for her. Having a teaching method that focuses on the individual child’s needs and learning abilities, involves the whole family, and is nature oriented sounds perfect to meet the wide and varied needs her children have. They’re a military family, so having suggestions for affordable activities will he welcome. She could really use something like this and it will benefit the whole family.

Hi our children are 8 and 5. We have used Oak Meadow for 3 years now and love it. Its so great to be able to have two children working on the same thing but at different levels as the curriculums are often well intertwined. Our family is very outdoors orientated and Oak Meadow works so well with this. I love how it covers every area of our lives but lets us deliver how we want to went we want to. Being in New Zealand means we need to flip a few things round but it still works so well. Working with Oak Meadow also means our children can talk about other children around the world doing the same thing and that really special.
    Recommend the journey totally

I would like to win the curriculum not for myself but for a friend who is homeschooling her five year old daughter for the first time starting in September. When she asked me for advice on picking a curriculum I recommended Oak Meadow after looking at several other programs. Her family is very much into nature and learning with their hands and Oak Meadow just seems to fit not only how they learn but how they live. They have a very tight budget and have been trying to get the funds together to buy the First Grade package but haven’t been able to do it yet. It would be awesome to win and help them get their first year of homeschooling off to a great start.

I think Oak Meadow would be a fantastic fit for my eldest (first grade) but still a lot of fun for our preschooler who enjoys participating in our school activities here and there. It just seems really in tune with what we desire in a curriculum and my own schooling/parenting/life philosophies.

I have been looking at Oak Meadow for awhile now. It was recommended by another home-schooling family. My young people are 8 yrs and 6 yrs and I haven’t followed a curriculum so far but we are getting to the point where we are needing a little structure. Oak Meadow sounds like it may be a good fit for our educational journey. We fall more towards unschooling in the sense that we use experience and child led interests as our guide. My 3 boys are 9, 8, & 3. They LOVE being outside and I’ve asked them long before now what would they like to do in school to learn better. They requested more educational games and art. I think this would be great as my two older boys have many “learning challenges but are able to learn” with lots of hands on, discussion, and they ask many questions about nature and think this would be a good & different approach for all of us! I’m always seeking better and new ideas for us. I say, “us” because I’m learning a lot right along with them.

Hi . My name is Iveth and we are about to start our 1st year of HS. I have 2 daughters (12 and 8 years old ) and I was so lost in all the curriculum information and options until I found yours. !!!!!! For the last weeks I has been researching in every web site trying to find the rigth program for us , and after read all the information and made a lot of phone calls, I always come back to my fist option : Oakmeadow ,. , I have to confess that I am already in excitement- stress-panic mode hahahaha about the approaching homeschool opening day , but having a strong and organized curriculum is like a lifesaver for this first time mom , and at the same time is good to know that I can let my kids enjoy the education process without miss any important subject in this new learning experience. I really really want to win the price , it could be awesome if I can take away the stress-panic part and just let the excitement . Please pick me !!!!!!!!

    Hello
My name is Destiny and this will be my first year homeschooling my son jaydin. Jaydin is seven years old and he will be going into the second grade.
Homeschool is a whole new world to me. I find myself being nervous, scared, but over all excited about homeschooling my child. I want to do what is best for my son and over all I want to make sure that this is a positive experience for the both of us.
The one thing that has been a bit overwhelming is choosing a curriculum; there are to many to choose from! After spending hours on the internet researching curriculums, lesson plans, field trips, and homeschool groups, i started to feel a bit discouraged. Although there were so many curriculum to choose from it seemef that each program was lacking something that I felt wad important to my childs academic success. The curriculums were either to religious, to much work, confusing, lack of accreditation, to expensive, or it was just plain boring. I have a second grader! Learning is supposed to be exciting and fun while at the same time academically challenging. I almost called it quits with my internet search until I stumbled across Oak Meadows school. I spent almost an hour on their website learning everything about that program. I fell in love! I said to myself FINALLY, I found a curriculum that is perfect for my child. I love the fact that it waldorf inspired and they have such a strong emphasis on play and creativity. I loved the fact that this program is more “old school”, we live in a technology driven world that it seems that our children lack creativity, drive, and they have little to no imagination because they no longer are outside playing or playing with toys. They are so wrapped up with their ipad, television, computer and video games. Oak Meadows provides books filled with amazing stories that can broaden a child’s curosity about his or her world. The program provides materials that are hands on, so not only is the child reading about science but he or she is able to experiment with the new concepts that they have learned. Oak meadows makes learning fun but at the same time they are still challenging the child academically! We can clearly see that oak meadows main goal is to raise a well rounded student, they encourage play, creativity, music, arts and crafts while at the same time providing a strong, rich and challenging curriculum. This project based program gives education and lesrning a whole new meaning. The best part is its accredited which is very important to me. I know my son will love this program he excels in science and math and he is also a hands on type of learner. He will have so much fun doing projects and learning new science and mathematical concepts. My son also enjoys arts and crafts he will love painting and playing with clay. Although my son isnt the biggest fan of reading and language arts I feel that he will enjoy reading the books that oak meadows have chose. Most importantly my son is going to have a blast learning!
My goal is to raise a strong intelligent Christian young man. I want my son to do well in school and have so many opportunities. It is important to me that he lives a happy and successful life. The only way that my son can be successful is to get a great education. I strongly believe that oak meadows is the best program for ny child and I am more than confident that this program will contribute to my sons success.
    Thank you for reading!
    Destiny

I have a 13 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. We transitioned from the Robinson curriculum a year ago (to a more traditional schooling approach) and while i do feel that we need more structure, my kids have not taken well to it, (particularly my 10 year old, who has a very artistic/musical nature). I think Oak Meadow could be the happy medium that I am looking for.
