Weekend links
My Jonathan (age 11, & a meteorologist in the making) adores his new climate/weather kit!

Amazing readers, over the next few weeks I’d be so grateful if you could help me make Simple Homeschool even more useful and inspiring by giving me some helpful feedback.

Today I’d love to hear your thoughts about these weekend ‪links posts: How would you rate them on a scale of 1-10? If you wouldn’t rate them a 10, how could I improve them to make them better for you?

Click here to leave a comment, and if you could keep your words on the positive/constructive side, that would be so appreciated. Thank you!

I already have the contributing blog writers bookmarked so I would appreciate links from sources other than contributors.

This was going to be my comment as well. Often 2 or 3 are ones I already read regularly, would be great to find even more homeschooling blogs that I don’t know about!
I do love to see what your family is reading, and love link lists in general.

This was going to be part of my comment as well. I appreciate that you do this weekend round-up, thank you! I used to do one, too. I love that contributors are included, because I just don’t have time to blog surf, but I would love to see a greater variety of linked up posts. Perhaps at least one could be from a reader’s blog!

I enjoy the links and am not sure how you would change it. When I view it in my reader (feedly), the “what we’re reading this week” books do not show up, only the reader’s name and age.

10- I look forward to your picks each week. I don’t mind when you share contributor posts since I don’t have time to keep up with all of them regularly and it is nice to go and read posts you might have found especially meaningful. Thanks for your blog in general. It is the one place I come regularly for inspiration. I also like seeing what others are reading…always a fun part.

I’ll say 9. I really like the variety of links, and I don’t think any one site shows up overly often. I usually read at least a couple of them that catch my eye. They never all do, but that’s totally fine, because you’re never going to hit everyone’s interests in that moment exactly. I also read in a feed reader like someone mentioned already, and the books don’t show up. I’ll click through if I’m on my computer, but not on my phone, because it’s old and doesn’t like opening new windows. So sometimes I miss out on that.
I like that you post personal content, links, and a resource or two. I think that’s a good balance.

I think you have a good balance. Sometime I have already read a few or a few don’t interest me, but that is makes total sense. I often find at least one or two that are beneficial, I think that is really pretty good. Most blogs that do weekly links do not really interest me, but I do really enjoy them on Simple Homeschool!

    Hi Jamie,

I always open your weekend links email! Of course not every single thing that you share resonates with me, but I am drawn to the inspiration that you present through the links. Sometimes I need reassurance that we are in line with other homeschoolers, sometimes I need ideas for new topics of study and ways to go about that. I do not use a formal curriculum, so I am often seeking ideas. I like the book links and I also appreciate the Amazon prime ideas as searching for good screen content is not my forte and of course my kids really love most things delivered by the screen. We just tuned in to code.org and have done one or two sessions of the hour of code. Perhaps that is old news but new to us….maybe you want to check it out and/or share it. Thanks for putting yourself out into the World Wide Web and sharing generously!

J, thanks for the links and all the time you put into each week. Nuts to the haters. I loved the high school link. “You don’t have to know it all to teach high school, but have it within reach.” So true! And being an ongoing learner really helps!

Off to my stack of books. Snuggle blanket. Couple of my kids. Coffee.

10-I love the weekend links because I can take what I need and read links at will from one post. I usually go back to the post over the weekend and read most of them. We are special needs homeschoolers, so (like others have said) not every link will be for us. I like learning of new blogs while using Simple Homeschool as sort of a home base. I think you do a really good job. Thanks!

I always look forward to the weekend links. I usually read them Saturday morning with a cup of coffee and a stack of pancakes. I like the variety and usually read 2-3 of them. I’ve usually already read a few, but that’s because I’ve found so many great blogs through your links and I subscribe to them! I’ve also found several good books from seeing what you are reading, both for myself and my children. The only improvement would be that I would love to see more diversity in homeschooling method represented.

That’s an interesting idea, Clarissa. But I’m not sure how to go into that without it being overly cumbersome. Just so you know, if there’s something I’m reading (or kids) that we’re really NOT enjoying, I wouldn’t mention it in links. So if it’s there, it’s usually a solid choice! Thanks for the feedback!

I look forward to the links as encouragement. Lately the links seem to be geared towards homeschooling in the upper grades. I’m still new with a 5,4,1 year old and one on the way. I’m also moving 9 hours away and have been hoping for some help on how to keep your sanity while moving. And create a routine when we get to the new place. It’s a little hectic right now.

I love the link posts! 9 out of 10 🙂 The only way I can think of to make them better is perhaps giving a slightly longer overview of what the link is about. I usually click on several, but if the title doesn’t clue me in to the content enough I often won’t take the time to click through.

I like the links a lot because I don’t want to devote the time to scouring the internet looking for information or inspiration. I like to fix a hot tea, and click on the links you provide. Easy. No stress. The only thing that could improve it would be a few personal words from you about the post or why you picked it. This isn’t necessary…just me selfishly wanting another glimpse inside your thoughts.

I like that you share articles from sources – papers -other websites/bloggers that I might not know….I dont follow many blogs so these are always new to me. 🙂

I have a hard time answering this type of question because I don’t know what I’m expecting to find, I just like to see what someone else is enjoying. I agree with a previous comment that you’ll never make everyone happy, and you probably already know that, but I think it’s worth repeating. If I don’t like any of the links one week, that’s OK, I’ll still read the email the next week.

I do wonder why I don’t get it in my inbox until Saturday, because comments started Friday. I used to not even get it until Sunday morning.

I give them a 9 as I often have read many of them, but sometimes I haven’t. I would appreciate either a pic or a teaser sentence about the article as sometimes the link title isn’t enough.
I also am curious what podcasts you listen to, if any. There are so many helpful, encouraging and inspiring ones that it would be nice to have some featured for my Sunday Laundry & Meal Planning Day. Even ones your children may enjoy.
On that note, it would interesting to see what specific episodes, shows or movies struck a chord with your family to show that isn’t always blogs & books to recommend inspiration. Again, something that doesn’t require too much time to type into a list.
    Thank you Jamie!

I too am really grateful for these links posts! I also read the links post on Fridays from Modern Mrs. Darcy and one thing that I appreciate her doing with those articles is excerpting a particular phrase/sentence/paragraph that has caught her attention or seems particularly meaningful. It helps me decide if I want to read the article or not and even if I don’t read the article, I can still get a sense of it immediately. I would love to have that here too.

I enjoy the weekend links emails. I often don’t get to them until a week or two later but I enjoy the links to good articles as well as good book suggestions. Your kids are all older than my little guy so I rarely find books for him in these emails. However I do find some of the stuff you are reading is exactly what I’m looking for or I tag books at my local library to read later based on your recommendations. Keep the weekend links!
