I was so thrilled to see your photo of you tapping your trees. We have been tapping our trees for the 4 years we’ve lived here. We have about 100 trees. We’ve always used plastic milk jugs, but they are a bear to clean out each year. I have also been concerned about the plastic itself and whether it is wise to use the milk jugs given concerns of plastic degrading and leeching chemicals, especially when our sap is concentrated about 40x to make syrup. We’ve looked into metal pails, but they are so expensive. I hadn’t seen any plastic pails before I saw the photo on your blog. Are there any environmental concerns using plastic (other than in creating them)? Is there a site where you can order just the pails and lids? Thanks so much for posting the photo. Hope you have a terrific sap run this year.
